How Gifts for Geeks collects, uses and protects your information.

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use giftsforgeeks.co.uk, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it. Gifts for Geeks is operated by Dylan Digital Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), which is the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR.

What we collect

  • Usage & analytics data — if you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, device type, approximate location, referring site). This is only enabled after you consent.
  • Wishlist data — gifts you save are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and don't leave your device unless you choose to create an account.
  • Account data (optional) — if you create an account, we store your email address and saved lists so they sync across devices.

We do not sell products directly and therefore do not collect payment or card details.

How we use it

  • To run, secure and improve the site.
  • To measure traffic and understand which gifts are popular.
  • To attribute affiliate referrals so retailers can credit any commission due.

Legal basis

We rely on your consent for analytics and other non-essential cookies, and on our legitimate interests in operating a secure, functional website for the essentials. You can withdraw consent at any time (see below).

Cookies

We use a small number of essential cookies to run the site, and — only with your consent — analytics cookies via Google Analytics. You can accept or decline non-essential cookies using the banner shown on your first visit, and change your mind by clearing the site's cookies in your browser.

Affiliate links & third parties

Gifts for Geeks contains affiliate links. When you click one, you're taken to a third-party retailer (such as Amazon, an Awin advertiser, or Forbidden Planet), and the affiliate network may set a cookie to attribute any resulting purchase. Those retailers and networks are independent and have their own privacy policies, which govern what they collect once you leave our site.

Third-party services we rely on include:

  • Google Analytics (analytics) — consent-gated.
  • Awin and Amazon Associates (affiliate attribution).
  • Supabase (account & wishlist sync, if you create an account).
  • Vercel (website hosting).

Data retention

Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' retention settings. Account data is kept until you ask us to delete your account. Locally-stored wishlist data stays on your device until you clear it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email hello@giftsforgeeks.co.uk.

Children

The site is intended for adults buying gifts. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

We may update this policy from time to time; the "last updated" date above shows the latest revision.
